On Mr.Karthik Bharathi
Mr. Karthik Bharathi is a social worker in the field of education. He runs a non-profit organisation named 'madurai seed' at karumbalai, for children and young people who are socially and economically poor. The main motive of this organisation is to develop the skills of the children and enrich their self-esteem. This organisation was begun in June 1999 and is legalised.
Mr. Karthik being brought up under the poor social background, understood the pain and hardships of the children who were not provided education and was instead forced to work for their living. Though his siblings were not educated after the eighth grade, he was gifted to graduate from college. From his teenage, he had the thirst to do something for the children in his surrounding. He went to school during day, taught the children in the evening, and worked at night. He started teaching by being a volunteer in a literacy program conducted at his eleventh grade and was given a stipend of Rs.90 for tutoring.
This interest in tutoring children turned into a passion after reading one of Jeyakanthan's novel during his college days. The storyline was about a boy who worked for his living and attended night school to learn, which reflected his(Karthik) social background. This story motivated him to work for the children and simultaneously he started attending seminars and volunteered in a camp for forty days. He was also selected as the student president for his active participation.
After such achievements, he gradually realised that the back benchers turned out to be rogues as they were ignored by the society. This made him start an organisation for these ignored students for their betterment of lives and to avoid them from becoming a criminal in this crooked society. He organised evening turion centers for children from age 5 to 17. The children were categorised into groups according to their age. Young people after the age of 17 volunteered for tutoring at the center.
While interacting he said, "My life is not filled with great adventures yet it's a successful one!" Indeed it is, he attained his goal by avoiding early marriages, ceasing teenagers from becoming bad citizens, helped many students graduate, and last but not the least he has made a little but strong and intense change in his social surrounding.
Meeting an enthusiastic and positive person in this self-centred world was a different experience. All he wants isthe children 'to read, learn and explore.' He concluded his speech quoting, "the little things that we(youngsters) do might bring a greater change in this society!" So let's start being the little change that the society needs for a greater transformation.
