The Teacher The Society Needs. - An article on Mr. Yogesh Karthick

    The Teacher The Society Needs.
For a very long time our society is criticizing the educational system, the way it has turned into an enterprise, the lack of originality in students and how they come out without any practical knowledge of what they laboured for years. And many are wondering why no changes or reformations have come. The meeting with Mr.Yogesh gave an answer to this.
The situations is not in need of complaints, already there is plenty and there is no point in waiting as the majority have realised. The condition demands actions-selfless actions, and that's what Mr. Yogesh and people like him are striving for. The interview with him ranks in our quality time list. Being a graduate in engineering he chose to leave the corporate company in chennai, where he had been working for a year due to the dissatisfaction it gave. His urge for contributing to the education of the students and the contradicting aspects of studying engineering and working as an engineer are the reasons for his discontent.
He started 'Vidhai' in 2012, a center where children could learn and aspire beyond school lessons but did not succeed in maintaining that. So he returned to madurai and worked on water conservation. A field which is harmless to the environment at the same time profitable for a living. It was here here he got an opportunity to learn things which the education system failed to provide. But due to various issues he put a pause and jumped back to his initial dream. This time with the help of few other like minded people and student volunteers it was possible. He deliberately targeted education for students from sixth to eighth standard. A age where children move from childhood to adolescence and moulding them at that point is appropriate and essential. They also tend to understand and believe what is taught. Apart from that, today's generation claim to have more freedom but Mr. Yogesh tells that the students' freedom is curbed in this generation. In the name of being competitive they fail to think and act on their own. The demands of the family on the kids has also increased, this literally stops their creative growth. So, it is important to identify the unique talents of the individuals and tap out their potential.
Initially it started with a children home near his locality(Nagamalai pudukottai). The curriculum for the education was formed with the guidance of few teachers, social activists, social workers who work for child rights. The center did not aim at advising or preaching morals but rather gave space for their creativity. They engaged the students with responsibilities which naturally prevented them from getting distracted and indulging in unwanted habits. They made it a point to visit all possibles places that falls under their syllabus. The practical experience made them think and question that led to the exploration of answers.
Later he developed his own center named "Kalari" where students experiment fundamental science and develop their talents. His family is not completely satisfied with his choice but he is happy that he does what is good and right.  With the help of student volunteers he successfully carries out activities. And sees his seeds growing and creating a fruit yielding future.
